Middle School: Social Studies

Listed below are the standards/guidelines for the particular areas of the St. John Middle School Social Studies program.

6th Grade

Middle school students in sixth grade will study World History, with topics including:

  • Locations of modern countries
  • Landforms
  • Bodies of Water
  • Climate
  • Stone Age
  • Early River Civilizations
  • Ancient Greece
  • Ancient Rome
  • Middle Ages
    – Renaissance
    – Reformation
  • Major World Religions

In addition to these topics, students will also take part in activities including:

  • Geography Bee

7th Grade

Middle school students in seventh grade will study World Geography, with Geography Themes including:

  • Location
  • Places and Products
  • People and Cultures

In addition to these topics, students will also take part in activities including:

  • Future City
  • Geography Bee

8th Grade

Middle school students in eighth grade will study U.S. History, with topics including:

  • A New Nation
  • The Louisiana Purchase
  • Industrial Revolution
  • Slavery and the Civil War
  • Reconstruction
  • Westward Expansion

Students will also study Kansas History. In addition to these topics, students will also take part in activities including:

  • Future City
  • Geography Bee
