Seventy years ago, a dream became reality.<\/p><\/div>

On September 6, 1956, St. John School opened its doors as the first Catholic school in Lawrence, Kansas, welcoming students in grades 1\u20138.<\/span><\/p>\n

But the story of St. John School began long before that first day.<\/p>\n

For 10 years, Rt. Rev. Msgr. George Towle and a dedicated committee of St. John parishioners worked to make Catholic education in Lawrence a reality. Through their vision, perseverance, faith and generosity, the school they had worked toward for a decade finally welcomed its first students.<\/p>\n

Under the leadership of Principal Sister Owen Marie Falk, SCL, and staffed by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, St. John began a tradition of Catholic education that has now continued for seven decades.<\/p>\n

Today, 70 years after those first students entered their classrooms, their legacy lives on in every St. John Eagle.<\/strong><\/p><\/div><\/div>
