Come volunteer with the youth of St. John! Young adults and “young at heart” adults are encouraged to be present to our youth. All types of service are needed; we need teaching team members, mentors, retreat leaders, and help setting up the spaces for our different programs. Read more about both the high school and middle school programs below, and see the following forms to get signed up to help out.

Middle School Ministry

Middle School Volunteer Application

We welcome energetic, faith-filled volunteers to help serve our middle school youth. If that is you, read on! Middle school youth nights, known as THE ROCK, are roughly every other Wednesday from 5:00–6:00 p.m. throughout the school year. The alternate Wednesdays are generally reserved for service opportunities with our students, which last from 3:45–5:00 p.m. With a little set-up and clean-up time, this translates to a time commitment of about 2 hours a week for our teaching team members, plus another 3 hours of planning time (preparing for the week’s lesson, etc.). There may be special events or outings for the youth group (football game, Worlds of Fun, service trips, etc.) that we ask you to attend as well.

If you want to help out but are unable to fit Wednesday nights into your schedule, we have other opportunities for you to be involved! Frequently special events will be planned for our students and we will need chaperons or drivers. Be a part of our Mercy Team and you can help coordinate monthly service opportunities for our students. Are you musical? Our music ministry team leads students in worship and is always looking for new members!

Finally, if you can’t make the Wednesday night THE ROCK meetings, you might consider helping out with our High School Youth Group that primarily meets on Sunday nights. We’d love to have you there, as well!

High School Discipleship Ministry

High School Volunteer Application

Attention, volunteers! The model we use for formation at the high school level at St. John the Evangelist is a small group discipleship model.

What does this mean?

This means that once things are rolling for the school year, small discipleship groups meet with their core team leader every two weeks for two hours. This requires a signed commitment form from the students, just like any sport/school activity. This gives our ministry an opportunity to better meet the needs of the individual students of our Parish by ministering as Jesus did (James, John and Peter were his closest homeboys). Ministry bears much more fruit in this way.

What does this mean for me as a volunteer?

It means we need people who are strong in their faith and willing to serve as witnesses and share their experiences with small groups of high school students who are in the developmental stages of their own faith journeys. You don’t have to be a super-smooth presenter, and you don’t have to have an amazing, come-to-Jesus story to tell…you just have to be open, honest, and willing to invest a little bit of time in the lives of our youth.
